“I would describe Abacus as visionary, skillful, and non-judgmental. Chas is great at keeping everyone—the client and the design team—together. Working with Abacus is a next-stage relationship—to them, ‘completing’ the job is the ‘commencement’ of what the job was for: getting to live in a home you love.”

The new homeowners wanted to emphasize a traditional feel while adding clean, crisp features to make the house comfortably contemporary. The extensive remodel involved a new floor plan, moving the kitchen and all three bathrooms. We also installed new hardwood floors, windows, doors and trim. Every detail was designed and executed to look as if it had been there all along.
This mid-century California Ranch had been built as half-house, half-dance hall. (Yes, for weekly square dances.) Inside the dance hall’s high roof we installed a new boxed beam ceiling, dramatically adding to the home’s Craftsman-style feel. On the exterior we added new cedar decks and hand-split shingle siding. Abacus also built a classic Craftsman entry porch with Dutch door to set everyone’s design expectations.
